SF YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE REQUIREMENT (Rec Soccer Coach)
To coach for San Francisco Youth Soccer (SFYS), you must complete a background check, fingerprinting, safety certifications, and basic coach licensing. All requirements must be completed before you can be cleared on the Game Day Photo Roster.
- Register with Top Score (SFYS registration management platform) and ANKORED.
- California Live Scan fingerprinting (SFYS SAY)
- SafeSport - linked in the US Soccer Digital Learning Center
- Intro to Safe and Healthy Playing Environment (ISHPE) / Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest & Temperature related training
- US Soccer Safe Soccer Background screening (Valid for 2 years)
SAY Soccer Background Check (SFYS historic check - valid for 3 years from original issue date) - Coach Licensing is Required for Coaching Staff
Register for a profile in US Soccer Learning Center.
- Complete the Introduction to Coaching through the US Soccer Learning profile.
- Complete the appropriate online or in person training certificate: 7v7, 9v9 or 11v11 or above.

NorCal League - U.S. Club Soccer Requirement via GotSport
For coaches with teams playing in NorCal.
1. SafeSport Training Requirement
The U.S. Center for SafeSport online training covers the following subjects: sexual abuse, hazing, bullying, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, harassment (non-sexual) as well as reporting obligations. There are three modules required to become “SafeSport Trained”: a) Mandatory Reporting: Understanding Your Responsibilities; b) Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education; and c) Emotional and Physical Misconduct.
2. Complete background screening
The level of screening generally includes a direct county/state of residence criminal record search for all counties in which an individual has lived within the past seven years, regardless of whether any “hits” appear on the national database searches.
